Ice Hockey
About the Team: The University of Richmond Ice Hockey Program was born in 2001. Until that year, the University of Richmond had never fielded a competitive hockey team of any level. The Club was formed by Chris Bernard, a sophomore at the time. He had always played hockey at his home in New Jersey, and he missed playing while he was attending school. Bernard soon found out that he was not the only one, and the team was born. Because of a small student body (about 3,000), and the lack of any hockey program at the University, the first team consisted of only 14 players. Bernard’s jersey, #11, was retired on September 24, 2010, during the Spider’s 2010–11 season opener vs. VCU.
Practice Schedule: 1–2 nights a week., Richmond Ice Zone, Skate Nation (address: 636 Johnston Willis Dr, N Chesterfield, VA 23236).
Experience Level: The club hockey team consists of players with advanced skill levels. Most of our players have competed on youth travel teams as well as at the high school Varsity level. With that being said, we do encourage all players to come out and join the team.
