Norris Eastman Scholarship
The Norris Eastman Scholarship was established in 1996 by memorial gifts given in his name. The original criterion of the scholarship was to benefit a student studying health and sports science, with an interest in aquatics. In 2001, the emphasis of the scholarship was changed to focus more on benefiting students with an overall interest in health and wellness.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Be a full-time student at the University of Richmond;
- Possess an active interest in the health and wellness field and actively participate in two or more health and wellness campus extracurricular activities;
- Actively participate in either a varsity sport (excluding men's football and basketball), club sport or intramural team;
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher;
- Display good citizenship and act in a a manner that enhances the University's programs
Students with financial need are preferred but not required. The scholarship will be renewed as long as the student remains enrolled at the University of Richmond during their undergraduate years and maintain satisfactory academic citizenship.
Interested students should complete the scholarship application as well as write a one page philosophy statement answering the following question: "What does wellness mean to me and what impact does it have on my life".
The application and philosophy statement should be submitted by April 10, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Applications can be dropped of at the Weinstein Center for Recreation & Wellness or e-mailed to Tracy Cassalia, Health Educator at tcassali@richmond.edu.
