Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness

As one of only five facilities in the country to receive the 2008 National Intramural Recreational Sports Association Outstanding Sports Facility award, the Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness is one of the most actively and universally used buildings on campus.

Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities

Recreation and Wellness is committed to making its facilities, programs, and services inclusive and accessible to all members including a variety of accommodations available to members with special needs. These include but are not limited to: The Weinstein Center for Recreation and Wellness has handicap parking and the building is accessible with push-button front doors, adaptive fitness equipment, stairs and lift to assist entering and exiting the pool, universal locker room, and an elevator to gain easy access to the various levels of the building. Personal Trainers are available to provide instructions for proper use of fitness equipment and to meet one-on-one to assist with developing a personal exercise program to meet your needs. Staff is always available to assist should a person need help or have a question or concern.

Weinstein Center Three-Court Gymnasium

The Weinstein Center offers a three-court gymnasium where any of the courts can be converted for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, indoor tennis, or just open space. Each court can be separated with a divider curtain that drops from the ceiling. Bleachers are available for spectator seating. Each court also has its own electronic scoreboard.

  • Court 1 is always open for recreation with infrequent exceptions that are posted in advance
  • Court 2 & 3 can be reserved for sport club practices, intramural competitions, and outside groups. These schedules are always posted outside the gymnasium doors and on the University calendar.
Indoor Walking/Jogging Track

An elevated indoor track with 3 lanes; walkers are asked to stay to the outside, runners to the inside. One lap around the track is 1/10 of a mile. Clicker counters are available at Member Services to track mileage (no charge).

Natatorium

The natatorium includes a six-lane, 25 yard swimming pool with both a low and high dive. Recent renovations include the installation of new windows, bleachers, portable pool stairs, and a chair lift.

  • Monday–Friday, 7:30–9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m., 5:30–9 p.m.
  • Saturday, noon–3 p.m.
  • Sunday, noon–3 p.m., 6–9 p.m.

Whenever possible, modifications to the Recreational Swim schedule are posted in advance in the facility and on this website.

Cardio Area

Members can take advantage of treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes, as well as steppers. The Cardio Entertainment Center offers Cardio Theater that enables members to bring headphones and plug into their cardio machines to hear audio from any of our 12 flat screen TVs. The Matrix Area provides cardio equipment with individual viewing screens that enable members to select a desired channel and use headphones to hear the audio. Please bring your own headphones.

Strength Training Area

Members can take advantage of two strength circuits (one on the lower level and one on the upper level), as well as a variety of plate-loaded and free weight equipment.

Racquetball/Squash Courts

Members can reserve courts in one hour increments by calling (804) 289-8361 the same day of desired play.
There are four racquetball and two squash courts available for use. Racquets, balls and goggles can be checked out at Member Services (no charge).

  • Located in the interior of the Robins Center, just a short walk from the Weinstein Center
Multipurpose Rooms

The multipurpose rooms are open for general use when a class is not in session. Class schedules are posted outside each multipurpose room. The multipurpose rooms are where most of the group exercise/FIP classes are taught. Rooms are equipped with exercise balls, dumbbells, stretching/yoga mats, spinning bikes, jump ropes, and other exercise accessories.

  • One multipurpose room is located on the first level and another on the second level of the Weinstein Center.

Weinstein Center Classroom 202

The classroom in the Weinstein Center houses a majority of the Wellness graduation requirement classes. The classroom is equipped with multiple white boards and a laptop hook up, including a drop down projection screen.

Weinstein Center Conference Room

The conference room has full internet capabilities with a desktop computer provided, and also the ability to hook up your own laptop. A drop down screen with projection system provides quality viewing for the whole room which can seat up to twenty.

Massage Therapy Room

The massage therapy room houses all of the massage therapy offered at the Weinstein Center. It is the perfect place to unwind and relax. Massages are by appointment only. See Screenings & Assessments for additional information.

Assessment Room

The Assessment room is ideal for personal trainers, dieticians, and more to meet with clients and discuss programs as well as conduct assessments. The room provides all of the latest tools including blood pressure cuffs, skin fold testing and cholesterol screening.
