Descriptions 

The University of Richmond Recreational facilities are designed to accommodate a wide range of individual and group activities. Recreation and Wellness is committed to providing optimal recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community.  

Weinstein Center 3 Court Gymnasium

The Weinstein Center offers a 3 court gymnasium with access from the interior or exterior of the Weinstein Center.  Any of the courts can be converted for basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, indoor tennis or just open space.  Each court can be separated with a divider curtain that drops from the ceiling.  Bleachers are available for spectator seating.  Each court also has its own electronic scoreboard.

• Court 1 is always open for recreation with infrequent exceptions that are posted in advance.
• Court 2 & 3 can be reserved for sport club practices, intramural competitions, and outside groups.  These schedules are always posted outside the gymnasium doors and on the University calendar.

An elevated indoor track with 3 lanes; walkers are asked to stay to the outside, runners to the inside.  One lap around the track is 1/10 of a mile. Clicker counters are available at Member Services to track mileage (no charge).

Natatorium

Twice annually the pool will close for general maintenance. Signs will be posted throughout the facility to notify members.  Whenever possible, any modifications to the Recreational Swim schedule will be posted in advance in the facility and on the Web site.

The natatorium includes a 6-lane swimming pool with both a low and high dive.  Recent renovations include the installation of new windows, bleachers, portable pool stairs and a chair lift.

Members can take advantage of treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes, as well as steppers. The Cardio Entertainment Center offers Cardio Theater that enables members to bring headphones and plug into their cardio machines to hear audio from any of our 12 flat screen TVs. The Matrix Area provides cardio equipment with individual viewing screens that enable members to select a desired channel and use headphones to hear the audio. Please bring your own headphones.

Members can take advabtage of 2 strength circuits (one on the lower level and one on the upper level), as well as a variety of plate-loaded and free weight equipment.

Occasionally courts may be closed for special events or maintenance.  Whenever possible, notices will be posted in advance in the facility and on the Web site.

Members can reserve courts in one hour increments by calling (804) 289-8361 the same day of desired play.
There are 4 racquetball and 2 squash courts available for use.  Racquets, balls and goggles can be checked out at Member Services (no charge).

The multipurpose rooms are open for general use when a class is not in session.  Class schedules are posted outside each multipurpose room. The multipurpose rooms are where most of the group exercise/FIP classes are taught.  Rooms are equipped with exercise balls, dumbbells, stretching/yoga mats, spinning bikes, jump ropes and other exercise accessories.

• One multipurpose room is located on the first level and another on the second level of the Weinstein Center.

Occasionally the game room will be reserved for special events.  Notices will be posted in advance in the facility and on the Web site.

The game room offers a lounge area that includes Dance Dance Revolution, 2 pool tables, 2 ping pong tables, video game machine and televisions for relaxation. This area is also used as a work station for student employees and many of the Sport Clubs use this space to conduct business.

Intramural competitions, sport club practices and competitions, and outside groups use this space. In order to find free time it is necessary to consult the Intramural Field schedules posted on the shed.

There are 3 multipurpose fields that are the home to all outdoor recreational sports activities (sports clubs, intramurals, etc.).  Whenever there is not a scheduled practice, competition or event, the Intramural fields are available for University use.

• Located on the Richmond College side of campus located adjacent to University Forest Apartments.  The IM fields are approximately ½ a mile across campus from the Weinstein Center. 
  

Outdoor Sports Complex

Occasionally the complex will be reserved for events or competitions.  Please refer to the schedule posted on the Intramural shed.

The outdoor sports complex consists of a sand volleyball pit, two basketball courts, tennis wall, and a picnic area.  There is also a grassy knoll that can accommodate a wide array of other games.

• Available from sunrise until 11:00 p.m., the lights will automatically turn off
• Located on the Richmond College side of campus located adjacent to University Forest Apartments and Intramural Fields.  The complex is approximately ½ mile across campus from the Weinstein Center.

High Ropes Course

The Team Odyssey High Ropes Course is a new addition to campus that opened in the spring of 2008.  With 2 levels of high ropes challenges combined with low challenges, this facility provides opportunities for team building, experiential education, and leadership training.  The Odyssey course is operated and scheduled through Challenge Discovery.  See Outdoor Adventure for more information and contact numbers.

• Located on the Richmond College side of campus located adjacent to University Forest Apartments.  The High Ropes Course is beside Field 3 and approximately ½ mile across campus from the Weinstein Center.

Richmond College Tennis Courts

There are six lighted and two unlighted hard surface tennis courts.  Lights are on an automatic timer.  Courts are used on a first come, first-served basis when not scheduled for practices, competitions or instructional programs.

• Courts are open for recreational use when not scheduled for practices or competitions.
• Courts are located on the Richmond College side of campus near the Business School and Law School.

Weinstein Center Classroom 202

The classroom in the Weinstein Center houses a majority of the Wellness requirement classes and physical therapists who have office hours.  The classroom is equipped with multiple white boards and a laptop hook up, including a drop down projection screen. The classroom can be reserved for the lecture portion of a larger event.

Weinstein Center Conference Room

The conference room is equipped with all necessary amenities for your next meeting.  The conference room has full internet capabilities with a desktop computer provided, and also the ability to hook up your own laptop.  A drop down screen with projection system provides quality viewing for the whole room which can seat up to twenty.

Massage Therapy Room

The massage therapy room houses all of the massage therapy offered at the Weinstein Center.  It is the perfect place to unwind and relax.  Massages are by appointment only.  See Screenings & Assessments for additional information.

Assessment Room

The Assessment room is ideal for personal trainers, dieticians, and more to meet with clients and discuss programs as well as conduct assessments.  The room provides all of the latest tools including blood pressure cuffs, skin fold testing and cholesterol screening.

Weinstein Center Courtyard

The Weinstein Center offers a beautiful courtyard with a peristyle that can provide shading from the sun or cover in the rain as well as three grassy knolls ideal for lawn games, seating or whatever your group needs. The courtyard is directly in front of the Weinstein Center with easy access to all of the indoor amenities of the center.
