Men's Varsity Club Lacrosse
Since its inception in 1980, the University of Richmond men's lacrosse club has attracted talented players from some of the top high school teams in the nation. Many members were recruited to play Division I or Division III lacrosse, but chose to play at Richmond.
With a talented team and an institutional determination to succeed on a national level, the men's lacrosse club is preparing to transition to a varsity club. Moving forward with this plan will capitalize on an ideal climate—lacrosse is the fastest growing high school sport in the United States, and the number of NCAA lacrosse programs is rapidly increasing.
Key steps in the transition include:
- Increasing fundraising to supplement funds from the University and in order to support the increased annual operating budget of $100,000–200,000
- Recruiting an experienced and successful coach, as well as hiring a full-time trainer and an administrator to support increased expectations and demands
- Moving from the NCLL league to the more competitive MCLA league
- Paying additional costs to travel by bus in order to ensure the safety of the club
